DIY Tip of the Week: Facial Cleanser and Toner

When I was in my twenties I spent a ridiculous amount of money on expensive facial cleansers, toners, moisturizers, etc. that promised to make my skin clear and luminous. That never happened. I still struggled with acne, despite using some of the “best” products on the market. My skin is, at 35, clearer than it ever was a decade ago. I attribute some of that to the fact I am
eating a healthier diet and drinking around a gallon of water every day (and if you think it’s easy to drink a gallon of water after having 3 babies…well, think again).

I’m now spending pennies on my facial routine instead of hundreds by using three simple ingredients: coconut oil, apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil.

For the facial cleanser/make up remover take ¼ to ½ teaspoon of coconut oil. Gently massage into the skin for around 30 seconds. Remove with a hot washcloth. It will remove make up without at trace and leave your skin soft but not greasy.

Next, for the toner, mix 1 -2 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar (I like Bragg’s or Heinz’s all-natural) with 4 tablespoons of water and add 1-2 drops of tea tree oil. Apply to the skin with a cottonball after cleansing. Yes, it will stink, but the smell soon dissipates.
