The Days Are Long, But The Years Are Short

I thoroughly enjoyed Gretchen Rubin’s book The Happiness Project. Her reminder, “The days are long, but the years are short” resonates with me in this season of mothering small children. Every morning, as I pour my first delicious cup of coffee, I remind myself that yes, the days (and nights) are long, but the years are oh-so-short.

These days . . . so full of sweet moments, but so utterly exhausting.  Sometimes I throw my hands up and say, “THANK GOD the years are short!” because I don’t think I could survive if the years were long.

This simple reminder causes me to pause in the day and enjoy life. The five-year old will not always ask me to play Lego’s. The three-year old won’t always twirl around the house in her princess dress. The baby will not always want to be held.  And someday . . .  I will not have an entourage when using the restroom.
