“Pictures of perfection, as you know, make me sick and wicked.” – Jane Austen
Being honest here: I recently unfollowed a girl on Instagram because even though we are in similar stages of life with multiple little children, her world looked too perfect. A part of me envied how well she captured her seemingly always-perfect life. Yes, sometimes I want to have the mommy blog where everything is pretty. The perfectly matched clothes for my perfectly clean children. The adorable pictures with no laundry in the background. Realistically, I don’t’ have the time or energy to photo shop my life that much.
This blog is about real life. There are times I hesitate to post a picture because it doesn’t seem charming enough to share. While the mom on Instagram may be accurately documenting her life, I realized that
I don’t want to present my life as always lovely. It’s not. It has many beautiful moments. But I don’t always capture the full beauty of them because – hello – I’m living my life, not merely documenting it! This is the life of someone with a big, half-renovated home. Someone who has 3 children under 5 and whose spouse works long hours. So here’s to embracing what one of my friends dubbed “glorious imperfections.” Here’s to pictures that are far from perfect but share the true story of a blessed mama.
