When Mike and I married nearly 8 years ago, our friends were incredibly generous and we enjoyed several lovely showers. As much as we have enjoyed the china, giftcards and housewares, the one present that stands out was a promise to pray for our marriage. At a wedding shower, a longtime family friend shared that she was committing to pray for us every single day of our first year of marriage. There were so many times that I was encouraged as I knew she was praying for us daily. It truly was one of the most meaningful gifts.
I was reminded of this gift over the weekend as my brother married his longtime girlfriend. As I watched the two of them join hands in a beautiful ceremony and heard them vow to love each other, I remembered how much you need the love and support of your family and friends as you begin this new journey together. I remembered how much it meant to know people were praying for us as we became one. So, with the help of a daily reminder on my phone (because let’s face it – I have good intentions but that doesn’t always translate into action), I’ve committed to pray for my brother and sister-in-law every single day for a year. I know that their marriage is going to be full of highs and lows. And I am cheering for them through every moment.
